Very sad to hear the news of keiths death in september due to a Brain Tumour, i only found out last friday when his other half and soul-mate Suzanne tracked me down to kindly let me know, i was shocked as i didnt even know of his illness and it still has'nt really sunk in. Keith or "Lumpy" as he was known to us surfers was a diamond to know, with the most wicked sense of humour! he was king of the dry one liner and would have me in stitches all the time. Lumpy was a few years older than me and one of the first generation surfers round here,along with Colin aka the Green Giant,as the other partner in the an anarchic double act of wit! i looked up to these guys being younger and jumped at the chance to go to the Isle of Wight for the south coast champs in the early 70'swe arrived on the saturday en masse with a crew from Bournemouth only to find it flat!, so we amused ourselves doing the big hill{main road} at compton on skateboards,which was fine for us kids but the "adults" soon got bored and we all retired to the pub at opening time{a.m.} whereupon it was decided a drinking contest would alleviate the boredom? and so it commenced,well lumpy and the green giant won that particular contest with a joint first of 25 pints each!!. They didnt however get away unscathed as they then decided to have a punching contest which again was a draw!,when we eventually got back to our B&B they then decided to run round the whole hotel naked with the tooth brush beakers covering thir respective modesties untill they collapsed!!, all in a days work to these two?. I was stunned as i'd never seen grown men do this sort of thing, but didnt stop laughing for a week!. Lumpy never changed really,he may have got older but i,d like to think he didnt grow up to much? he still gave us the same greeting, Orright Muuush! in his dorset accent which i still copy to this day,still makes me laugh!. When you look at his photo you can see his lop sided grin with a mischievious look in his eyes, but you can also see kindness in there as well which sort of sums up Lumpy, Suzanne is being very strong and brave at the moment,but she says she misses him hugging her the most,so if you see her give her a hug from Lumpy.x.x.

Bournemouth Pier Survival Kit !!

Take a beaten up board {preferably a Bonzer} plus the above, add a pair of  nail clippers or scissors up the sleeve of your wetsuit for the fishing lines that you inevitably get wrapped up in and you're set for your session at the pier ?!. Rating far above Shipsterns or Teahupoo in risk factor and danger to yourself is the Pier!. The problems arise from overcrowding and access to the water {jump off the pier} for novices, and the lack of any other surf spots in the Bay, plus the inner and outer break that happens at the pier and its a bomb waiting to go off ! I have seen a lot of injuries happen and punches thrown on a daily basis , that its getting ridiculous? Whats the answer? i really dont know we've tried for years to calm it down but nobody listens, a plea for sanity maybe before someones killed out there??. The brass knuckles,by the way are a touch of irony!!

Mountain Dew Spoon by Pete Berry

If you know about Kneeboards then Maroubras Pete Berry  is one of the great design guru's and innovators!. Pete is known as the ozzy George Greenough, and me and my brother became freinds with him in 1980 whilst living in Sydney. This is my brother mark's spoon which was built by pete for him in his backyard shaping shed in the "Bra", there were 2 built at the same time and both are in bournemouth.The whole process in watching these evolve was was addictive,me and my bruv would knock off work and go to petes all the time to watch a craftsman at work and take the piss and laugh all the time,you could do that with pete,he was no prima donna despite his legendary reputation. His kneeboards were ahead of their time and intriguing to me as a lot of his boards had flex,not just the spoons, his 7'0'' Gun kneeboard was awesome,and he rode 15' Angourie on it!!. Their is precious little on the Net about pete,but worth checking out,I think pete is still around?. The shots are of Mark riding the spoon for the first time in 29 years! it got a lot of attention!!

They are retro style boards like 70's single fins,twin fins,quads and BONZERS, like Russ Shorts,octafish,bumblebees etc, so you can expand your surfing horizons on a daily basis and try out new designs to you! It's a no brainer really innit ? Its run by Joe and Farrel,and they're good lads and BONZER fanatics as well!.Oh and the Russ Short and the Taylor Knox in the pics are Joes new boards so he might not let you use those!!
